During the Deep Freeze years local Dunedin photographers took photographs of the picket ships as they sailed Otago Harbour. Steve McLachlan
is a stamp dealer in Christchurch, New Zealand. Steve sent me several photos of the picket ships and in an e-mail said: "Re the two photos I sent (TJ Gary and
Calcaterra) scans of they have a rubber stamp on the back of "A CHERUB PICTURE State Fire building, Rattray Street, Dunedin". No copyright is claimed on them. I also have a similar one of the USS
"MIlLS". In similar style I have postcards showing The "PETERSON" and "WILHOITE" which are marked on back "Photo by FRANZ, DUNEDIN, N.Z. COPYRIGHT."
All the above
have fancy shaped edges which were popular at that time. I also have more basic type photographs of the "BROUGH" (2 diff), "VANCE", "DURANT" and "PETERSON" which were taken by
a ship photos Photographer "D. Wright of 26 Meridian St, Port Chalmers". He is now deceased and I purchased his collection of ship photographs from his son recently. (May 3, 2003)
