Lee Fritts

Lee Fritts was a Sonarman 2nd Class aboard USS Calcaterra. For the past several years he and I swapped e-mails and an occasional phone call.  Over the weekend of Oct 28, 2006 Lee and I were e-mailing, trying to identify the sailor in the photo with him taken in Greece. Lee insisted the guy was Ed Lynch, and I knew it wasn't Ed Lynch. On Monday, Oct. 30, 2006 Lee died in a single car accident while driving home from work in his restored 1976 Chevy truck.

On Nov. 13, 2006 Ronnie Floyd solved the mystery, the gent on the photo is Ed April, RM-2.

L-R Lee Fritts, ST-2, Ed April, RM-2, Athens, Greece, 1966
When Lee first saw this photo he said "that's me with my back to the camera. I'd recognize that butt anywhere".
On Oct. 7, 2006 Lee Fritts sent me this photo with the following note:

HEY GUYS, JUST FOUND THIS AFTER YEARS, THINK I CAN PLEAD MY IRISH SIDE?

ME, THE "MUM", & ELDEST SON.

I THINK MY LEGS LOOK GREAT!
